Text Box: Welcome!
Fiber artist Michelle Dobrin introduces colourful pieces of quilted fabric art, uniquely designed and hand-crafted with skill and creativity.
Michelle is a self-taught art quilter and she has been creating one-of-a-kind quilted wall-hangings  since 1997.  Her designs have been unique from the very beginning.  Her early art quilts all feature appliquéd images of insects (made while pursuing a degree in biology), but her range of subjects has changed and broadened since.   For Michelle, the fascination with art quilting is due to a blend of interests in nature and traditional quilt-making, as well as to an innate sense and love of colour and texture.  As a very tactile person, Michelle has always loved the feel and warmth of traditional quilts.  In her art work she adds layers of different fibers to the quilts (such as painted cheesecloth, dryer sheets, paper towel or frilly yarns), to add interest and both visual and real texture to the traditional soft and smooth broadcloth surface.
Michelle’s work is purely ornamental.  Her quilts, whether hard-backed or soft, large or small, are designed to hang on the wall.  By continually exploring the potential of new forms and textures and constantly experimenting with a variety of new textiles and creative stitchwork, her work is always evolving.  Stay tuned to see the new developments!
